Lesson 114: House Highlight 6: Quirky Weird or Quirky Cool?

Artsy friends. Today, I rearranged furniture and painted stuff.

I need your opinion.

Is this arrangement "Quirky Weird" or "Quirky Cool"?

Thanks in advance.

Lesson Learned: I'm not sure if I've learned my color lesson yet. HELP!

  1. Hmmm....I think the turquoise frame is out of place. And you might have a bit too much stripe-action going on with the chair/pillow. For greater unity, you could do the frame a neutral color (black/brown/silver), or find ways to introduce turquoise into the rest of the room. The striped pillow could easily be swapped with a simpler one. But that's just my opinion--take it or leave it. I have a master's in art education, not interior decorating! ;)

    1. Thanks Jessica. Honestly, I wasn't really going for unity. I was trying out that "mixing competing patterns" thing that is so popular in fashion these days. The idea is that rooms that have a litle bit of ugly are actually more interesting and even pretty.

However, in fashion, you only wear the clothes for a day. In a house, you have to live with it for days, so I am not sure how long we'll be able to keep the look!

    1. Pottery Barn Outlet. The fabric on the chair looks totally different than the pattern as it is shown in the catalog. My guess is someone ordered it and didn't like it in real life, so it ended up at the outlet! I was super excited the day I found it.

  3. I like the bright frame, but I am not sure with how I feel next to the warm red...just my thought- I think it's quirky cool :)

    1. Holley, I was thinking the same thing. I ended up switching the Yellow Horse Print with the Paris print. I think it makes more sense!!!! Thanks friend!
